Our department uses an educational model that is aimed at the use of a meaning-directed (i.e. deep) and/or application directed-learning approaches and the development or improvement of self-regulating learning skills of students. My research programme intends to monitor a range of educational interventions and to generate evidence for the effectivity of this educational model.
I became interested in educational research while being a Director of Education for the Pharmacy curriculum between 2008 and 2014. Before that, I had been involved in developing innovative curricula for the biomedical (B.Sc.) and pharmaceutical sciences (B.Sc.Pharm., Pharm.D. and the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences) in our university.
In addition I am a member of the Executive Committee and treasurer of the European Association of Faculties of Pharmacy (EAFP) and involved in a number of European projects in the field of pharmacy education and training.
My background is in general pharmacology and pharmacokinetics. After obtaining my Ph.D. in 1985 I supervised six Ph.D.-projects in the area of drug biotransformation, molecular toxicology and intestinal inflammation. At the moment I still teach statistics, general pharmacology and pharmacokinetics at the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University College Utrecht and University College Roosevelt (Middelburg).
